FEBRUARY 2010 NEWSLETTER

SHORT AND SWEET NEWSLETTER, JUST IN TIME FOR VALENTINES DAY..................

Rosemary's Gift & Yarn Shop has a new address and phone number, 207-894-5770! I have moved from Cornish to Windham, Maine.
My "GRAND OPENING" is scheduled for February 13 & 14, 2010 from 10 AM to 5 PM.

I invite you to join in the celebration of a new chapter in my life! Treat yourself to a "Special Valentine" by planning a trip to 39 Roosevelt Trail, Windham, Maine. It is located directly on Route 302 at the corner of Percy Hawkes road near the Westbrook Town Line.

Click here to go to a mapquest map that I have provided for you and please keep in mind that the pointer should be located on 302 on the right side of Percy Hawkes Road and not further down on the left side of Percy Hawkes Road as shown. I am hoping they correct the map soon! But until then you can't miss my sign because it is very visible and LARGE!

Because I am very busy getting everything ready for my opening I will make this a very short newsletter and give you just the basic information needed so I can spend my time getting everything unpacked, and in its place so when you walk through the door you will be saying, "WOW, this is even bigger and better then the Cornish shop"......"How can that be?"

PICTURES OF THE MOVE TO WINDHAM!

Enjoying time together at our last "Clinic" and getting ready to pack up the Cornish shop. My helpers were Jeanne, Patrice, Cheryl, Janice and Bernice (not pictured). We all worked so hard packing up the shop and getting everything ready for the movers to arrive.

After the yarn was all bagged, Janice decided to try letting the bags roll down the stairs and it was a great idea! Cheryl joined in the fun and we all had a blast rolling it down. Janice stashed it in the gift shop until she ran out of room!

Here is Janice lugging the bags in the gift shop and the other picture is Rosa looking very confused about what was going on! Although it was fun that night and we had lots of laughs, we all felt it the next morning when we got out of bed after using muscles that hadn't been used for a while.

After the movers loaded the truck and made way to Windham, it all had to be unloaded and assembled at the new shop. Marc and Paul, pictured here, worked very hard setting up the shelves. Bob and Huard worked hard too but I didn't get a picture of them to show you.....shame on me! They all did such a great job setting things up and you will see just what I'm talking about when you come to the shop.

Here is a picture of me up on a ladder looking over a wall of yarn. This wall must be at least 10 feet high so you'll get an idea of how much yarn was moved! It filled the entire room.

Just before the move Patrice came wearing her beautiful scarf she had finished. I just had to include it in the newsletter so you can see how gorgeous it is! Patrice knit it using Noro, Ira.

IMPORTANT REQUEST: I drove to Cornish to pick up a couple things and had a message on the answering machine from the Sanford Cancer Center saying that they are complete out of Chemo hats for their patients and have a real need for more. I gave them all I had in December and only have five on hand now. If you can knit a hat for them I know they will be most grateful. Just drop them off at the shop in Windham or mail them to me and I will see that they are delivered.

Rosemary's "Yarn Shop" is the home of "GATHERING HANDS"
Gathering Hands is comprised of knitters and crocheters who share a common goal of helping others through various projects. You don't need to live close by to be part of Gathering Hands. Our hands can reach many!

Everyone is invited to be a part of GATHERING HANDS. You can help from your own home or your own knitting/crochet group and if in Maine or within driving distance of the Windham area please drop by and say hello.

"GATHERING HANDS" PROJECTS:

OPERATION HOMEFRONT KIDS: The intention of this project is to make a difference in the life of a child from Maine who has a parent serving in the Military. I'm working together with the Non-profit organization called "Operation Homefront" that has chapters throughout the United States. The Maine chapter has requested that the items should be made to fit from newborn to age 13. I'm looking for sweaters; hats, scarves & mittens; socks, purses, afghans or what you think a child would like.

OPERATION SUNSHINE BEARS: This is such a touching and fun project. I have a free one-seam knit Teddy Bear pattern available at the shop or by email at your request. The bears will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House and Maine Medical Child Life Program Barbara Bush Wing in Portland, Maine, and to Police and Firemen to give to children in crisis. These are wonderful Teddy Bears and I hope you will participate by making them too and help bring a smile to the face of a child. I want to give a very special "Thank You" to Eva McDonald who created this pattern and gave me permission to use and alter it for this project.

OPERATION RICHIE'S CAP: This is a project for making chemo caps for cancer patients in memory of my friend, Richie Aaron. I have created a knit and crochet pattern and it's free when you'll make a cap to donate. This project continues to be such a success as I receive hats from all over the country from customers that have come by the shop or read about it on-line and mail them on to me. I encourage yarns for warm caps for winter months and cotton, bamboo, etc. for summer months to protect against the sun.

OPERATION WARM HANDS: This is another wonderful project of making mittens for donation for the 2009-2010 winter season to those with a need. What a great small project for the knitter with little time and so worth while to a child with cold hands! I invite you to help in this project......it's a great summer project too!

IF YOU CAN KNIT OR CROCHET......CAN YOU HELP AND BECOME A PART OF GATHERING HANDS?

Together we can make a difference!

Deliver or ship Mittens, Richie's Caps, Teddy Bears or for Homefront Kids to:
